Prepping Your Home

Preparing Your Home for Flea and Cockroach Pest Control Services

At Knott’s Pest Control, we strive to provide effective and efficient pest control services. To ensure the best results, preparing your home for our visit is essential. Here’s a detailed guide on how to prepare your home for flea or cockroach pest control services.

For Flea Control Preparation

  1. Vacuum Thoroughly: Before our arrival, vacuum all carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture, and floor cracks. This will help remove adult fleas, larvae, and eggs. Be sure to empty the vacuum cleaner into a bag, seal it, and dispose of it outside your home immediately.
  2. Wash All Beddings: Wash all pet bedding, linens, throw rugs, and cushions in hot water. This will help eliminate any remaining fleas and their eggs.
  3. Clear All Floors: Ensure all floors, especially carpeted areas where pets frequent, are free of clutter. This includes toys, shoes, and clothes to allow our technicians easy access and thorough treatment.
  4. Treat Pets: Treat all pets with veterinarian-approved flea treatment on the same day of the scheduled pest control service. This helps to prevent reinfestation.
  5. If We Spray, Leave the House: Arrange for you and your pets to be out of the house during the treatment and for three hours afterward to allow the treatment to settle and to avoid inhaling any agents.
  6. If We Use Interior bait:  You do not need to vacate your unit for this pest control service.

For Cockroach Control Preparation

  1. Kitchen: Remove everything from all cabinets and drawers only where roaches have been seen. Under the sink access is very important.  If cabinets and drawers need to be cleaned, please do this before treatment. Be sure to leave the cabinets/drawers you want sprayed OPEN for the tech.
  2. Bathroom: Remove everything from under sink, and empty cabinet contents.
  3. Bedrooms: Move everything away from the wall. If roaches are seen in closet, remove items from  walls.
  4. Halls/Entryways: Remove all items from hall/entryway closets only if roaches are seen inside.
  5. Clean Appliances: Thoroughly clean appliances to remove grease and food residues. Cockroaches are attracted to food particles and grease, so eliminating these can reduce their food sources.
  6. Fix Leaks: Repair any water leaks. Cockroaches are attracted to moisture and water from leaks can provide a perfect breeding ground.
  7. Seal Food: Ensure that all food is stored in sealed containers. Remove trash regularly, and keep trash bins sealed.
  8. If We Spray, Leave the House: Like with flea treatment, ensure that all household members and pets vacate the premises during the treatment and for three hours after to avoid exposure to chemicals.
  9. If We Use Interior bait:  You do not need to vacate your unit for this pest control service.
